Mongiardo's Whistle Stop Tour Comes to Clinton

Lt. Governor stopped at the Senior Citizens' Center on Thursday in a final swing through West Kentucky. About thirty locals were on hand to greet him. At left, Mongiardo and businesswoman Joanne Shepherd.

Mongiardo spent more time taking one on one questions and having small group discussions than in speechifying. (Although, he did that too). Above, Henry Brazzell, Roger Trevino and County Judge Greg Pruitt discuss jobs with the candidate.

Where there's two or more voters, expect candidates for local office to be in evidence. At left, Sheriff John Turner and Sheriff's candidate challenger Mark Green were on hand. The handshake was ceremonial. Turner and Judge Pruitt have offices across the hall from each other.

Mongiardo told Democrats that his opponent, Attorney General Jack Conway will go to Washington and go along ot get along. He promised to fight for jobs and for Kentucky coal. The answer to dependence on foreign oil? Liquified coal. If all the coal in Kentucky is turned to liquid, it will be more than all of the Middle East oil.

He reminded the crowd that he lost by 1% to Jim Bunning because his home area of Eastern Kentucky did not turn out. He urged them to make calls in a get out the vote campaign.
