(Paducah KY, August 2, 2012) – Jerry Lundergan thundered to 300 Democrats that in no uncertain terms that he supported President Barack Obama in his bid for re-election. He cited Obama’s accomplishments over his four year term beginning with his ending of two wars (Iraq and Afghanistan) and ending with the provision of health care to millions without it. He told the crowd of 300 at Walker Hall in Paducah that he wold be a Democrat until he died.

The fiery former legislator, state party chair and father of Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes began an evening of back slapping, family gossip, announcements of other Fancy Farm weekend events and speeches by state elected officials and candidates. Lundergan Grimes and House Majority Leader Rocky Adkins were on hand to support McCracken’s Democratic Executive Committee’s activities.

Lundergan said that Democrats had been “asleep for ten years” letting West Kentucky slip away from the values of Alban Barkley, the native son of the Jackson Purchase who became vice president..  He urged fellow Dems to wake up and get to work for Democrat candidates.

From the turnout and enthusiasm at this early Fancy Farm event, they might just follow Thundering Lundergan’s advice.
