Those who initially doubted the wisdom of a festival to honor the poultry industry are beginning to get into the spirit of the thing as this small rural county prepares for its third annual Spring Chicken Festival.
From a small beginning in 2010, the Festival is growing this year to include Festival royalty. A beauty contest on Sunday April 21st will choose Chicken queens and kings of all ages.
There will be a 5K for adults and a fun run for children. Kids will also have games and bouncing castles to entertain them on Friday, the 26th and Saturday, the 27th.
While the kids bounce and get their faces painted, adults will be entertained with local musicians on an outdoor stage, a cornhole tournament, farm displays, crafts and of course, food.
If 2013 is anything like prior years, chicken will figure prominently on vendor menus. There will be a wild wings contest sponsored by a local bank.
To get in the mood, the Hickman County Arts Council is sponsoring an egg decorating art project for children, a window decorating contest and spearheading the purchase and decoration of concrete hens to "dress up" the town.
The Spring Chicken Festival will run simultaneously with the giant Quilt Festival in Paducah which attracts around 30,000 visitors each year.
Supporters are hoping that visitors will want to take a break and make the hour drive south to Clinton for the festival. If they do, they'll have a "feather rufflin' good time!"
