Governor Beshear Recognizes Sacrifice of Fort Campbell Soldier
FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 17, 2013) – Gov. Steve Beshear today recognized the sacrifice of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.
According to the Department of Defense, Staff Sgt. Sonny C. Zimmerman, 25, of Waynesfield, Ohio, died July 16, in Mushaka, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when his vehicle was attacked by a rocket propelled grenade. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, Fort Campbell, Ky.
The Governor will order that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on the day of Staff Sgt. Zimmerman’s interment for which arrangements are still pending.
