Announces Endorsements For May Primary Elections
Frankfort – The Kentucky State AFL-CIO Committee on Political Education (COPE), representing twenty-eight international unions, nine central labor councils, six building trade councils and hundreds of local unions across Kentucky, met in Frankfort on Saturday, March 15th, to consider candidate endorsements for the May Primary Elections.
COPE members considered endorsements for U.S. Senate, U.S. Congress, Kentucky State Senate, Kentucky State House and Kentucky Supreme Court and made the following endorsements:
U.S. Senate: Bruce Lunsford
U.S. House: David Boswell – 2nd CD; John Yarmuth – 3rd CD; Ben Chandler – 6th CD
State Supreme Court: Mary Noble – 5th Dist.
“Our Committee on Political Education is pleased to announce the candidates endorsed on the basis of their of support for the issues of critical importance to Kentucky’s hard working men and women: good jobs, the right to organize, health care for all, retirement security and education and training opportunities,” sta ted Bill Londrigan, President of the Kentucky State AFL-CIO.
“Heading our list of endorsements is Bruce Lunsford for U.S. Senate who has pledged to support the interests of America’s working families and when elected will support and work for passage of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), which was blocked by Senator McConnell despite overwhelming support in the U.S. House.
With the candidacy of Kentucky Senator David Boswell for 2nd Congressional District, Kentucky’s working families will add another supporter in Congress, joining the ranks of John Yarmuth (3rd CD) and Ben Chandler (6th CD).
The Kentucky State AFL-CIO and it affiliated unions will undertake another unprecedented effort to turn out our members, their families, retirees and members of our Working America affiliate to vote for our endorsed candidates on May 20th,” concluded President Londrigan.
