Clinton, KY - September 22, 2015 - Over seventy people gathered on the Hickman County Courthouse lawn to pray for the safety of police and emergency responders in the aftermath of KSP Trooper Joseph Ponder's shooting death. Girl Scout Daisy Troop was also on hand to take part in the service.

Clinton Mayor Phyllis Campbell opened the short service praising local police who put their lives on the line for citizens. Mayor Campbell said she and others would like to make the prayer service a yearly event, possibly holding it on September 11th, now known as Patriots' Day. One prayer by a local minister praised officers for "working for all of us."

Clinton Chief of Police Snapper Seaton spoke of the sacrifice of Trooper Ponder. I didn't know him, he said, but I know people who did and "he was a great guy." Seaton said that there are bad apples in every profession and law enforcement has bad apples. But the great majority, he said, are there to help their community.

Hickman County Fiscal Court member Corey Naranjo closed the meeting with a prayer.
