UPDATE: The Obama Administration took pity on Kentucky and is extending federal unemployment benefits, despite the screw up in not changing the law to comply with federal guidelines by the Governor and the Legislature.

Getting money from the feds to extend benefits for unemployed workers is apparently so complicated that legislation necessary to get more money from the feds never got introduced in the 2009 General Assembly. As late as last week, Governor Beshear was saying that the lack of a law change wouldn’t prevent extended benefits being paid by the feds.
