Marshall Countian Seeks Gray's Seat

UPDATE:The Special Election will be held February 5th.

Democrat Executive Committees from Marshall, Lyon, and McCracken Counties met at Kentucky Dam Village and chose their candidate in the special election.

Republicans have not yet scheduled a meeting to choose a candidate.

Now that Representative J. R. Gray is headed over to the Executive side of the Capitol, the race to replace him began today.  Gray represented the 6th House District - Marshall, Lyon and Reidland  No. 2.

Will Coursey, who worked in Speaker Richards' office for six years, confirmed he is interested in being the Democratic nominee for the seat. Coursey is a native Marshall Countian in his late twenties who works for a local bank.

Coursey said he has experience in Frankfort and would not be the typical freshman legislator. He will hit the ground running if elected. He pointed out that, because of his work in the Speaker's Office, he knows how to move legislation and he is familiar with the legislative process.

Candidates can also file by the end of January to fill the regular two year term beginning in 2009.
