Kentucky State Park Cottages Open Through Winter; Buffet Set For Thanksgiving

FRANKFORT, Ky. – All cottages at Kentucky State Parks will be open seven days a week throughout the winter months.

State resort parks offer a wide variety of cottages, including one, two or three bedrooms depending upon the park you wish to visit.  All cottages include a kitchen, appliances, utensils and a TV. Some have lake views while others are in wooded areas, depending upon the park. Some have fireplaces. Fifteen resort parks have cottages along with John James Audubon State Park in Henderson.

Thanksgiving Buffet

All 17 state resort park restaurants will be serving the annual Thanksgiving Day buffet on Nov. 25, 2010. The buffet will include soups, cheeses and salads for starters. Entrees include turkey and dressing, baked ham, carved roast beef and fried chicken. Vegetables include old fashioned candied yams, country-style green beans and mashed potatoes with giblet gravy. There will be a variety of desserts including pecan pie and pumpkin pie.

The cost for the buffet will be $17.95 plus tax (drink included) for adults; $6.95 for children ages 6-12 and children 5 and under are free.

The buffet will operate from noon to 8 p.m. at all park restaurants.

Camping
 
Several Kentucky State Park campgrounds remain open during winter months. They include Big Bone Lick State Park, Columbus-Belmont State Park, Fort Boonesborough State Park, General Butler State Resort Park, Green River Lake State Park (closed after December 25), Levi Jackson State Park and Paintsville Lake State Park. Some services and facilities may be limited during the winter. Visit www.parks.ky.gov for information and reservations.

Lodges and Restaurants
 

Beginning Nov. 14, 2010, all 17 resorts will be open to the public beginning at 3 p.m. on Wednesdays for lodging as well as dinner Wednesday evenings, then remain open until 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoons during the winter. They will return to normal schedules on March 15, 2011 to accommodate the increase in spring visitors. 

During the winter period, the lodge rooms and restaurants will be closed Sunday evening through Wednesday afternoons unless group meetings are booked. All lodges and restaurants will continue to accept future reservations and accommodate meeting and group business. Call the park for information about hours and reservations. Cottages and park grounds will remain open every day.

Golf Courses

All 18 State Park Golf Courses will continue to be open year-round, weather permitting.  Dependent upon weather, patrons can expect courses to be open from 4 -7 days each week.  The decision on which days the course will be open for the week ahead will be made each Friday based on the 10-day forecast.  Please call the park golf shop each week for their operational status. 

Daily winter rate greens fees range from $11 to $17 weekdays and $11 to $22 weekends (golf car not included) through March 31, 2011.  For more information on daily rates and golf packages visit www.parks.ky.gov/golftrail
