PTHS students do well in Tournament of Firsts
Luke Voorhies, a Paducah Tilghman junior, performs his tournament winning interpretation of “Young Frankenstein”

Repeating his success of November 13, Luke Voorhies of Paducah Tilghman once again brought home the first place overall prize in Humorous Interpretation in one tournament and took second in the next.

Voorhies was the top performer for Tilghman when their Speech Team took on 23 other schools at the Danville/Boyle County Tournaments of Firsts on November 20. He was backed with strong showings from freshman poetry contestant Alexis Ash, who won 2nd in the Boyle County Tournament and 3rd in Danville’s poetry category.

Other Finals Winners: Yasi Rasban, 9, 2nd – Broadcasting; Chandler Emmons Smith, 11, 4th-Storytelling; Caitlyn Gallip, 12, 5th - Poetry; Zach Winfield, 11, 5th – Poetry; Weston Loyd, 11, and Emily Page, 11, 6th-Improvastional Duo; William Smith, 9, 6th - Humorous Interpretation.

In addition to their ten Finals prizes, the Tilghman team earned eleven top ranks in preliminary rounds. Emily Page, 11, 1st-Broadcasting; Victoria Potter, 10, 1st-Impromptu Speaking; Caitlyn Gallip and Stephanie Durbin, 12, 2nd-Duo Interpretation; Jared Frazier, 11, and Bishlam Pea 11, 1st-Improvisational Duo; Pea,11, 1st-Original Oratory; Andi Boyd, 9, 2nd-Prose; Cason Walden, 9, 1st-Dramatic Interpretation, and Emily Page,11, 2nd-Broadcasting.

Over 400 students from across Kentucky competed in the events.
