Sedalia Elementary among elite 304 Blue Ribbon Schools honored in Washington

SEDALIA NAMED BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL – The U.S. Department of Education has officially recognized Sedalia Elementary as one of only 304 schools nationwide with the title of 2010 National Blue Ribbon School. A meeting in Washington, D.C., Nov. 15-16 officially sealed the honor, as first grade teacher Lisa Crowley (far left), principal Robert Braden (second from left), and Graves County Schools’ Superintendent Pete Galloway (far right) accepted the honor from Aba Kumi, the director of the Blue Ribbon Schools Program.

The program honors schools based on one of two criteria: (1) Schools whose students, regardless of backgrounds, are high performing. These are schools ranked among the state's highest performing schools as measured by their performance on state assessments and (2) Schools with at least 40 percent of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds that improve student performance to high levels as measured by the school's performance on state assessments or nationally-normed tests. Another Graves County school, Farmington Elementary, earned Blue Ribbon status in 2007.
