Yes, Virginia, there were other speakers at Fancy Farm
GOP side - Laurie Wilson takes pic of Mr. & Mrs. Comer while Gov. greets Congressman Whitfield

(Fancy Farm, KY – August 2, 2014) – Taking the stage were other candidates besides the main attraction of the two US Senate candidates.

Here’s a shout out in no particular order to those who had the courage to get up there and speak.

Ed Whitfield – Republican First District Congressman – Rep. Whitfield didn’t dwell on the accomplishments of the body in which he serves. He spent his six minutes bashing the Obama administration. Whitfield had the dubious distinction of being the only candidate to get to hear the Rolling Stones “Time is on My Side” as he went over his limit.

Charles Hatchett – candidate for the First District US House seat. I went to the bathroom as soon as he started talking. Unfortunately, I could still hear him through the portapotty doors. Hatchett's candidacy makes one long for a smoke filled back room complete with party bosses picking candidates.

Richard Heath – Republican incumbent KY House 2nd district (includes Mayfield and Fancy Farm) – Rep. Heath also spent his time bashing Barack Obama. Heath added Greg Stumbo’s name to list of oppressors. Flip the House and create a business friendly atmosphere.

Jesse Wright – Democratic challenger for House 2nd District. Went after his opponent, Richard Heath. No voice in Frankfort. Lost road fund money for district because of Heath. Announced teachers’ union endorsement.

Stan Humphries – Republican 1st District Kentucky senator – called Grimes a “young lady” a novice who’s never passed a piece of legislation. Cannot have this happen!

Politicians not on this year’s ballot who also spoke –

Governor Steve Beshear - Touted bipartisanship of Kentucky state government in last legislative session. Got in some digs at Mitch McConnell.

James Comer – Ag Commissioner announced he is running for governor. That was a shocker. (Not). Comer’s primary opponent, Hal Heiner, was present but not allowed to speak.

Jack Conway – Kentucky attorney general - gave a campaign speech in his quest to become next governor. Greg Fischer, Louisville Mayor, also present and rumored to be interested in a race for governor also not allowed to speak.

Adam Edelen – Kentucky state auditor - broadly hinted again that he is considering running against Rand Paul.

Todd Hollenbach – Kentucky treasurer – can’t run for treasurer again and hasn’t tipped his hand on his future – gave a red meat speech that McConnell, Paul and Whitfield didn’t hear. They were long gone and on their way to somewhere not Fancy Farm, Kentucky.

Charles Hatchett - Congressional candidate
Rep. Ed Whitfield
Jesse Wright - Dem candidate for KY House
Richard Heath - GOP incumbent House 2nd
Sen. Stan Humphries, first district
