Arts Council celebrates 10th year with a birthday party

The Hickman County Arts Council, Inc. will celebrate its tenth year with a birthday party.

A potluck dinner complete with birthday cake will be held at the Young Center in Clinton on Tuesday, January 13th at 6:00.

The program for the evening will be a tribute to the Council's oldest member, Dorothy Nell Harper. Members of the community, young and old, will share readings from her six books of poetry.

Poet Dorothy Nell HarperMrs. Harper's poetry is closely entwined with her love of family, God and the natural world around her. A founding member of the Arts Council, Dorothy Nell has brought her books of poetry to every Arts Fair but one since the Fair began. Her combination of homemade fudge and poems are always a big hit with shoppers.

The Hickman County Arts Council, Inc. is a nonprofit, tax exempt organization that has supported music, craft and drama in Hickman County. The quilt squares on the courthouse lawn is just one of the community beautification programs the organization has undertaken since its beginning.

The public is cordially invited to attend. Readers of Mrs. Harper's poetry will be welcome. For more information or to pick out a poem to read, contact Mary Potter, 270-653-3312.
