MURRAY, Ky. -- The Murray State University Town & Gown Community Band will host a free concert on Tuesday, June 7 at 7 p.m. outside Lovett Auditorium on the campus quad. The 80-member band is under the direction of Murray State's Todd Hill, comprised of various community members including Murray State students.
Musical selections that evening will include The Star Spangled Banner, marches, patriotic selections, light classics and popular tunes. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved inside Lovett Auditorium.
"We are so fortunate to have a wealth of students, as well as community musicians, who are passionate about music and sharing their talent with the entire community," said Carol Brunn, Murray State Town & Gown coordinator. "Our Town & Gown partners deeply value the cultural offerings that the University provides and we are thankful to them for allowing us to support this part of our mission."
This is the fifth season of Town and Gown's sponsorship of the community band which is led by Todd Hill, who is Associate Professor and Director of Jazz Studies at Murray State. In addition to directing numerous bands, orchestras and ensembles, Hill has backed diverse entertainers and jazz artists such as Bob Hope, The Moody Blues, Doc Severinsen and Gary Morris. Hill holds bachelor and master's degrees in Music Education from Murray State and a Doctor of Education degree from Boise State University.
