Senate Bill 9 will change courts in Purchase
Carlisle County Courthouse: Carlisle will be in the same judicial district as Graves, Hickman and Fulton if SB 9 becomes law.

Senate Bill 9, which realigns judicial circuits, is set to for a vote on March 1st by the full Kentucky Senate.

If it becomes law, there will be some big changes at courthouses in the Purchase:

Ballard County will move from the First Judicial Circuit to the Second with McCracken County. No new judges, district or circuit, will be assigned. Presently, there are two district judges and three circuit judges, including one family court judge, in McCracken alone.

Hickman, Fulton, Carlisle and Graves will be the First Judicial Circuit. The District will be entitled to two circuit judges - one of whom is predicted to be a family court judge and two district judges. Presently Graves has one circuit judge and one district judge. Hickman, Fulton, Ballard and Carlisle have a circuit judge and a district judge.

Livingston County is moving to a new circuit. It will be with Union and Webster Counties in the Fifth Judicial Circuit.

Without Livingston County, Trigg, Lyon and Caldwell Counties will be the 59th Judicial Circuit.

EDITOR'S NOTE: SB 9 passed Senate and is on its way to House Judiciary Committee.
