Letter to Editor:
Single-payer health care plan, HR 676 (physicians' plan), is based on replacing the private profit making insurance companies with public funding so that the $400 billion that is lost to administrative waste, CEO salaries, systems for screening out the unhealthy, denying care, etc., is instead spent on improving care for all of us who have insurance and expanding it to those who are not currently covered.
A single payer system is the only way we can get control of the costs and yet expand and improve the care. No nation in the world has kept private profit making insurance at the core of the system and still reached universal coverage. It can't be done.
