Purchase Region Industrial Park Gets Mega Status
It's MEGA. Certification means time consuming red tape gets shredded.
MAYFIELD, KY - The Purchase Region Industrial Park was certified a "mega-site" by McCallum Sweeney Consulting (MSC), one of the nation's premiere site-selection firms. The site located in Graves County on US 45 is eight miles from the Purchase Parkway and ten miles from Interstate 24. The site, which is 2200 acres, is actually in two parcels, one of 1000 acres and the second of 1200 acres. Both are served by five Class 1 railroads. Within a 70 mile radius is a potential workforce of 430,000.

Certification is important because it eases marketing to potential investors. Due diligence is performed by MSC, making that usually lengthy part of site acquisition quicker. "We had to satisfy all the zoning, right-of-way, easement, wetland, flood plain, geotechnical, environmental, ownership, access to utilites and availability of workforce issues were solved." said Bill Beasley, president and CEO of the Park.

In 2008, more than 2.2 billion dollars were invested in two Tennessee megasites. Hemlock Semiconductor located in Commerce Park near Clarksville and Volkswagen located in Chattanooga's Enterprise South Industrial Park.

In addition to certifying the site, MSC made suggestions to the best possible new tenants for the site. Jeannette Goldsmith, Principal at MSC, told the Park officials that "in addition to automotive-related industries, the data shows that primary metal and fabricated metal production, alternative energy equipment manufacturing, and chemical / advanced materials would be well suited to the site and the workforce."

The site is owned by an 8 county industrial board with one rep each from McCracken, Graves, Hickman, Fulton, Ballard, Carlisle, Marshall and Calloway Counties.
